Thank God I don't travel that much for work.... being on the road makes it so hard to stick to a diet and workout regiment. I visited Boston this week for an email design conference - which was lovely - but definitely comes with some pitfalls:
Pitfall 1: Being able to expense my meal? Willpower goes down the drain and I order dessert... pretty much every time.
Pitfall 2: Happy hours are normal on business trips. I can't just skip out like I usually do during the work week.
Pitfall 3: Even if my hotel has a gym a) it's usually small b) I usually have more than 8 hours i'm working that day, leaving me exhausted/lazy c) it's usually way more fun to jump on the enormous kind bed
Pitfall 4: I hate travelling alone. So to make up for it I do everything I can to cheer myself up. This involves dessert (see pitfall 1) and usually wine.

How do you stay on track?
- Bring your own snacks. This kind of only works for conferences (I realize this is a lot harder if you're visiting a client or something). Just because it's free food, doesn't mean you have to eat it!
- Take advantage of the fact that you're in a new place! Scope out healthy restaurants online before you visit, that way you know what your options are and don't get stuck ordering crappy Chinese food.
- If you have the opportunity to get more exercise, do it! (read: walk instead of taking a taxi)
- Bring your workout clothes. Do it. Set your alarm for early in the morning that way you don't have to worry about not having time after your night obligations. Even if where you're staying doesn't have an exercise room, do a circuit of burpees, sit ups, push ups, and lunges.
- If you happen to eat 12 cookies and 3 glasses of wine... get over it. Life will go on. When you
get home just work extra hard :)
At the end of the day... just keep everything in balance! Life is like a bicycle - to keep your balance just keep moving.
